Looking for something other than mac

Alright so i completely am lost right now where to start with a notebook for audio production or at least using my padkontrol a korg nano keyboard and an external drive for data
i use ableton...
My toshiba a65-s1062 is able to handle FL studio quiet well actually but i can feel it dying and need something that can handle many software synths and plug ins while using ableton.....

Now im seeing the Core i5 and Core i7 series and they are said to be amazing top line right up there.....

so my questions are this (will not be gaming on this)

1. is it worth having an i7 processor over the i5 in terms of multitasking such as recording editing and such?

2.RAM, this is deffinitly a must for all laptops the more the better i feel but sometimes that is not the case?

3. SSD, oh man is it worth having this for a notebook for audio producing? with all that writing and reading constant ?

4.Graphics dont bother me so much im not looking for top line fps gaming at all just something that i can see at least a 720 or 1080 p resolution for videos..

If you have any Cheap...Build from this laptop....let me know
i am willing to get a cheaper one and getting more ram and if need be upgrade the cpu and replace the hdd for ssd or what not

I still use my toshiba when im connected to a power source battery life sucks on it but im starting to get annoyed that i can only do one thing at a time...
My netbook three usb ports One of which i have to use an external sound card cuz my onboard is completely dead and one other has an external drive on it...so only leaves me with one usb port also it is not as strong for multiple programs to be run on...eeepc1015pn

i was looking at sony vaio but WOW expensive seems like the mac of windows world.....

any help would be awesome i feel like im going to go with an i7 setup and find the cheapest one to build off of but any input will help out

1. For converting, editing, and encoding yes.
2. More ram is always better for editing photos & videos
3. SSD, I still think it's not worth the cost for it and storage options are very limited, 256GB is like $500
4. You're going to have to find something with a dedicated ATI/Nvidia GPU then, Intel integrated GPU for laptops is not good for gaming

i7/i5 processor for laptop is going to eat a lot of battery power, these are more like mobile desktop replacements. Sony Vaio is terrible for the value, don't bother with them.

Ok awesome somebody got on that quick
thanks

Nvidia im seeing is alot better in terms of dedicated
its not much of a difference for me though because graphics is last in my book
also do they still make laptops with a cardbus extension for sound cards ?
i think its pcime
very diffiicult to find one that has one because all of them want usb instead and usb sound cards are not that great specially with the headphones i have
akg k240 studio
very nice i love em

would lenovo or msi be a wise choice
i have mixed reveiws about it
lenovo seems more dependable while msi is just like asus with the astectics

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136692

Speed is what im looking for audio production seems right here exactly what im looking for
i will be gone for a while that is why im looking at this need something to take with me to europe will not be bringing my pad kontrol though just my nano keyboard and this laptop getting it before summer hits thats when i leave for two years
so ya looking at this as best outcome for now and future really

any objections
or ideas on what tolook at
i have this totaled at 1002 with shipping included
seems fair to me i dont care about the glossy case and such this seems like a deal compared to others
might get a different battery pack if i can find one to get more from it

Helps?

You're going to have to sell/get rid of the stock ram that comes with the laptop, as it only has 2 memory slots, kinda a waste. The 5730 is fine except you're gonna want to undervolt/downclock it to save power as its more of a low-mid end gaming card, so even for 1080p video its a bit much.

And kinda a problem... lol 1366 x 768 have fun watching 1080 on that.

Look at :
http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np5160-...wconfigure=yes

I would recommend the 1080 screen, the 2720qm cpu, 500 gig harddrive, leave the ram at 4 gigs and buy extra ram on newegg (it has 4 ram slots).

Should be roughly 1100 when all assembled. The 2720qm Will DESTROY the old i7's (like the one in your laptop) like its not even close. If you want to save a bit of money, buy the 2630qm, it will still beat the old i7 by a good margin, and you'll save $190.
The 540m gpu is better then the 5730, BUT whats better about the 540m is that it comes with optimus (will give you much better battery life).

You can of course save a little bit of money by shopping around for other sellers, OR ordering the shell+mobo/gpu and building it yourself. And before you ask clevo/sager is a quality brand, they just dont do normal retail.

It's preorder, in a few weeks they will ship out(mid to end of march). They were already released but due to the sandy bridge issue (which these cpu's are) they had to recall the laptops and halt production.

So, hope you can wait till then. (wishes I had a military discount :[)

Thats the most complete list of resellers for the laptop I posted. Keep in mind its old, so ignore the laptops and stuff and just look at the sellers.

The top resellers for NA are:
RJTech
Malibal
PowerNotebooks
MYTHLOGIC
CyberPowerPC
OriginPC
Falcon Northwest
LPC-Digital
XoticPC
AVADirect

They all offer slightly different things/pricing. And keep in mind that they are resellers, not retail stores, you can haggle a price with them :] (not sure how low, but its worth it to try)
