Looking for something other than mac - Page 2

i know this is a bit of a late post considering you have already done research and such but you should look into the new dell xps 15 line, sandybridge cpu's and can be customized to what you need (ram base already comes with 6gigs, 1080p screen) and even then if your not looking for portability the xps 17 can be looked at , 4 ram dimm's 2 hd slots weight is an issue with the 17 though.

Ya i dont know about dell though
the problem i see is that i would like to have two hard drives
one ssd and one 7200
but the 8150 sager is what im looking at i still havent gotten it yet just making tabs on what to get
the 5160 is nice for what i am going to be doing but im still wondering
i like the ability to upgrade and the 5160 not possible
(upgrade cpu gpu and ram and all that jazz)
for future and to make the laptop last a very long time rather then just getting stuck with one specific design that is not upgradeable cpu or gpu

dell i have an xp m1530 it runs great
does exactly what i want it to but im ready to get something newer and ready to be upgraded fully with new year= new gear logic running in my head

main rig in my sig will be sold soon im hoping
to make room for lighter travels to turkey biggrin.gif
leaving usa for a couple years in fall cant wait

Sorta changes things. While you can upgrade the gpu in the 8130, the power supply cant handle the super expensive gpu's, so you may be stuck with the 460m.. So if you want to upgrade your gpu in the future, you should buy the 8150 as it has a much better power supply.

And another thing to know, both these laptops will only take 1 HDD/SSD. You have to remove the optical drive to use 2.

Ya i noticed that
see i have time to decide and see prices change biggrin.gif
so its no rush but deffinitly want to start to have the right list of things to get for it

I know that i wont be using to much of the disk anymore
(really now alot of things are done from usb and are easier movie watching no sweat for me games i knwo that i will be using the ea download manager cross the sea to get bf3 and thats it)
Hence why ill have to go with th 485m and the 2820QM processor

So im probally going to go with some mushkin ram
im thinking these or cheaper ones from new egg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226027
get two sets for max 16 gigs if my cpu can handle which it can utulize fully
why not have a bad a55 laptop overseas that will do exactly what you want fast

and looking at these hard drives ssds

For main debating if i really need a huge amount of space on my main though one game bf3, ableton with some soft synths and other recording programs for musik making overseas
SSD1-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227542
SSD2-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227611

HDD-

which from xotic they might put in to it if i just order a bigger drive from them at 7200 (but i dont like not knowing my drives that i receive they just pick one from a box and go with it with out letting anybody know )

intotal this i beleive came out to 2500 or something lower then that
the ram let me know if there is better then that for cheaper or what not
Im not to great at picking it out just looking for something that will work out with laptops and i trust mushkin alot have it in all my laptops/netbooks
my main uses gskill though typical yes and stupid indeed

Cant you access AAFES?

They are partnered with dell, and you can get some pretty sweet deals on alienware laptops.. Like I believe they are cheaper/better performance then a sager with AAFES.

Dude just stop. I Already recommended sager/clevo, and a list of resellers, buying directly from sager is more expensive than dealing with a reseller, and if you pick a good reseller they will have the exact same support/warranty as sager. So linking to the sager website is pretty useless.

Btw OP, grats on the deal, I wish I had AAFES discounts but I'm not in the military so yeah tongue.gif
