Nvidia 2D/3D Surround players - What does it take?

Hey OCN guys and gals!

I upgraded my system for Christmas, mainly to play games in 2D surround and it's totally worth the expense IMO.

Personally I found that Metro 2033 is unplayable maxed out with my sig rig (i7-950 @ 4Ghz with 2x GTX570's) in 2D surround mode. Now I just put a 3rd card in my 2nd rig (i7-920 with 3x GTX470's) and it can play Metro maxed out (51 fps using Metro benchmark) on one 1080p monitor. I haven't tried it using all 3 monitors yet but I can only guess it will not handle it.

My sig rig plays most other games fine in surround (Including Crysis 1 and Mafia II). I will be content playing Metro with one monitor if that's the only game that can't cut it on all 3 monitors. The first time I played NFS Shift in 2D Surround, I was really stoked and played for hours! It's even better than playing race games at the arcade.

So I'm curious, does anyone have a system that will play everything maxed out in surround mode? What hardware does it take? Will 3 GTX580's actually conquer Metro on 3 monitors?

Is that just a guess?

I'm hoping some members who play their games in surround will give me some factual FPS with their system specs.

Here you go. He has updated it on another forum where he used the gtx580 3gb versions and they stomped over everything else.

Metro used up to 2gb of vRam at one point on max settings . So although it can be done, unless you have either 3 gtx580s/gtx580 3gb's, then I would say running games like Metro/Crysis on max isn't playable.
