PC power off problems

Thread Starter
First off I'd like to thank the forums for being a great help when building my system, it went very smoothly except for a little scare (forgot to plug in front panel power connectors, woops)

I've had my PC up and running since about the 19th of February and Ive had problems with my PC freezing when it's in sleep mode. If I leave my PC on while I'm not there, what normally happens is that my mouse and keyboard die and my monitor powers off (I guess it stopped receiving video signals from my PC) BUT my PC would still be running (all fans lit and spinning). The only way to turn it off is to force power off by holding the power button down. This gets pretty annoying because even when going to fetch dinner for 30 minutes I would come back to a frozen PC. Not a HUGE issue but It's still pretty annoying, especially with Shogun 2 Total War coming up, I'd like to download without interruptions

My friend suggested it might be intel speedstep lowering my cpu and gpu speed during sleep mode so low that it crashes.

Oh and one more thing, I went into the power saving options and set monitor to never power off and sleep mode to never activate so the PC wudnt automatically do anything, issue still persists however

Thanks

well, if your friend says its speedstep, did you turn speedstep off? it's probably not that, but you could try. Very interesting problem, I'll update my post if I think of anything.

Look for "EIST", but I doubt that's it, or it would lock up other times.

Can this machine pass stress testing no prob? Sounds like it's failing enter/exit sleep properly. You can disable sleep under Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Power Options.

Some OC systems can sleep/resume, some can't.

its not necessarily sleep mode in the traditional sense, just leaving my computer on while im not there for an extended period of time kills it. What normally happens is that my mouse and keyboard dies, all peripherals (iphone) is no longer connected/charging to the computer. The fans are lit and running and the monitor is displaying a frozen image. Basically every time i leave my computer for anything longer than a washroom break it freezes.
