Crysis 2 demo review

I have just played the demo of Crysis 2 and must say that it is very enjoyable. I see a lot of people complaining here and I don't understand why. Most of the complaints are concerned that Crysis 2 has not made the graphical leap that they thought it would. Well it still looks very good and you may be surprised to know that the vast majority of PC gamers have mid to low end machines. Nobody wants to upgrade just for one game. Finally most gamers can enjoy the game on good graphics at launch with a smooth frame rate. We do not have the Crysis 1 situation where only the elite PC rigs can play it, and I am sure that only the die hard fans will be disappointed that they can't max out their £2000 rigs. It makes me question whether they actually enjoyed Crysis for the gameplay or just the graphics.

Another point is that most of the original fans loved Crysis 1 for its excellent SP campaign. The online community was not big and I only played a handful of matches. This new MP is small, fast paced and easy to get into. You can call it 'consolised' all you want but that does not stop it from being fun. Crytek have gained a lot more fans than they have lost over the new MP. As the maps are condensed you have to use the suit wisely, judging when to use certain powers. And I find that you rely on teamates more as a single person is hard to take down. Up against two and you will find yourself in trouble. Considering that I was only buying this game for the SP campaign the MP is an added bonus that I will enjoy immensely. Fans must also consider the fact that Crytek are appealing to a much wider audience than before, and their last MP never really took off so you cannot blame them for changing in direction from a business perspective or a fans perspective.

One of my criticisms is the cloak. I feel that it is overpowered. They should have kept it like the original. Now somebody can run circles around you in cloak and you will be none the wiser. In Crysis 1 the suits energy drained quickly if you ran with cloak. I feel like this is a bit of a cheat.

It would not be so bad if you could witness the 'glisten' of the cloak shimmering around them like the first game, but in this somebody has to be right infront of you otherwise they are TOTALLY invisible. Yes we do have nano vision, but with the amount of cloak spam going on you have to spend half a match watching blue and red just to get ahead. Plus nanovision does not always pick up on a cloaked person. Sometimes it just adds a glisten which is hard to see in thermal goggles. They should make the cloak glisten at all times so that we can have a fair MP.

I also don't like the fact that running is now considered speed mode and if you drain your suit then you can't even run. That in itself is rather pathetic. And the graphics seem a little blurry, I wish there was a way to turn this off. They should have allowed more options for customising the way the game looks. I also think there are hit detections problems. I have shot at people numerous times only to discover in the killcam that my shots never registered although I saw blood. I also dislike the fact that we are almost forced to use our iron sights just to hit on target. This is a big problem.

Like I said SP is the meat and bones of this game. They only tagged the MP as its selling point to rope in the console fans. If you are only concerned about graphics or a 'press start' button then you are a shallow gamer and do not deserve more than you get.

Im not a shallow gamer but I will say the Demo sucked. The graphics are terrible & the game play was clunky. If you feel like im a Shallow gamer because what I look for in gaming is hardcore Graphics then oh well cause Its 2011 & their is no reason for crappy Graphics this day in age

On a side note Crysis or Warhead single player was not that great. It was mediocre at best

Direct signs of an absolute console port. I am not paying for their laziness if they take LONGER to put out a pc release for the demo and then screw it up like this. Many people already canceled their preorders because of dumb crap like that as well.

I actually like the MP a bit but still won't buy the game until its at $20 or so simply because of all the stuff I don't like about the game.

Cloak is actually fine. I thought it would be worse then it is but it is fine. It lasts probably longer then it should but when you hit someone who is stealthed they lose all their energy and die really easily.

Most of my kills using stealth are just bashing people or breaking/cutting their neck

How do you play single player it only lets me play online, and playing online with everything hardcore isnt a fun experience either that or the motion blurr is just to crucial.

If you felt the last 2 games were mediocre why did you even take an interest in Crysis 2? And if you think the graphics are bad then you are in denial. They may not be breath taking but they are certainly not 'bad'. I think the graphics are very good and the lighting is outstanding, I just don't like the fact that everything is a bit blurry. Maybe they will let us customise this in the final game.

Not many people took an interest in Crysis 1 MP, but a lot of people are having fun with the demo. So I am certain it will add bring in more fans than it turns away despite the apparent cancellation epidemic.

Sotorious the demo is online only. I meant that I was looking forward to the SP campaign as I found the last 2 very good.

I took interest in Crysis 2 to give it a chance & see to be honest what kind of GFX they could pull off but I was disappointed. I am not in denial believe me I maxed out the Demo & it still wasnt that great. The water is absolutly horrible, The lighting is hardly outstanding & just the overall graphics are Blurry & Washed out.

The only way I could pull of Decent colors from the Demo was to drop my Brightness down to 15 which helped alot but it has a lack of contrast. The last 2 games were mediocre the only thing they had really going for them was outstanding visuals which I loved. The game play was only good till you got after the middle of the game then it started to get dull from there almost like they didnt want to put any more effort into it

@ 65.00 with tax its not worth it at all.

I just wanted to see if it was worth buying, especially since it is at the new eye gouge price of $60. Going to be getting shogun 2 instead since at least it is PC only and the demo was seemingly a lot better then this.

With shogun2 I was actually surprised and with crysis 2 I was disappointed and disgusted at the same time. I have actually put a bit of time into the crysis 2 demo but that is because I am just that bored

The multi is fairly fun, but it's also like too many shooter at this point for me to justify a purchase. It's something I can play for an hour or so, and then drop easily. Whereas something like BFMC made me stay up all night before work because I just could not put it down.
I also think the maps are too tight and cluttered. It pushes away the ability to fight as a team and forces things into a frenetic spamfest. If more open maps are included that allows for a slow paced game, I might take a second look.
Otherwise, it's just UT3 to me with polished mutators.

By the replies to this thread it seems that the only concern we have here are the graphics. Don't get me I also enjoy good graphics and think that they are important, but calling a game bad just because the graphics are not ground breaking is silly. Those people would never be satisfied anyway. I am only concerned that it looks too blurry.

Also remember that Crysis 1 lowered the details of the MP compared to the SP graphics. I don't see why this would not be the case in Crysis 2. A DX11 patch may also juice up the visuals.

Of course Crysis 2 is not going to win GOTY, but it has a nice MP that is addictive and will hold me until Battlefield 3(or MW3 for others) comes around later this year. I think Crytek know this which is why they released the game in March. Nothing wrong with that.

I find that you have to use teamwork more as it is harder to take on a single player and if you get alone you are in trouble. Not forgetting that fact that the way the MP maps are designed you can be seen and killed from multiple directions making you rely on someone to watch your back. I still don't like the cloak much, but hopefully there are perks to combat it.
