Overclocking

Thread Starter
Ive got 2 evga gtx 460 se and ive got presision but you have to manually overclock it bit by bit to make sure the cards are stable at the new frequencies and make sure there is no artifacting etc...so i tried revatuner and i could not figure it out...will someone tell me the best software...is it with presision for the hard way or is there a auto overclock software...

also i went from 648/1296/1700 to 720/1440/1835 and saw no difference in fps in mafia 2 benchmark...is that weird???

use msi afterburner to oc
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

use occt to test oc
http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download

also you could dl the free evga fw update to get your stock clocks to 720/1440

yup afterburner is better imo cuz it allows you to turn up the voltage to 1.087

there are ways to get the voltage higher too... but i would save that for later

use some kind of temperature monitoring software(HWmonitor, realtemp, gpu-z, etc.) to monitor your GPU temps... if your air cooling your overclock will be dependent on how cool or how hot your cards will run... 1.087v might be too much to keep cool
first make a full backup of your OS drive just in case of BSOD's and corrupting your OS

this is how i would start... if attempting max OC... if not going for max... i would use a lower voltage... max voltage is temperature dependent
open Afterburner and make sure that the check box for apply settings at start up is unchecked
crank the voltage to max 1.087v

(core test)
set the clock at 900mhz
(shader clock will automatically adjust)
leave memory clock at default
apply settings

open occt and do the gpu test and set it for 15min
set resolution to full screen
check the box that shows the text for artifacts and errors
run test... if no errors increase the core clock 3-5mhz
if you have errors end the test... decrease the clock 3-5mhz... rerun test until no errors

open Afterburner
(memory clock)
set memory clock to 2000mhz
leave core clock at default

open occt and do the gpu test and set it for 15min
set resolution to full screen
check the box that shows the text for artifacts and errors
run test... if no errors increase the memory clock 3-5mhz
if you have errors end the test... decrease the clock 3-5mhz... rerun test until no errors

time consuming but over clocking takes time
this is how i found my max OC

Also the same guy who made Rivatuner also made Afterburner so it will work with any graphics card. I use Afterburner with my eVGA 470 without any problems.

needs more speed... try different tests... 3dmark etc... i can tell you that overclocking the gpu and mem will indeed increase your scores...
