Persuade me to SFF?

Thread Starter
I'm looking at selling my current sig rig after all the parts show up. And I'll be looking at about $1000-1200 or so to spend on a new rig.

I was THINKING about going with a SFF build. Antec TPN650, H67 board, i5 2500k, Corsair H50 (with a better fan), and maybe a GTX570 if it'll fit. Plus I must be able to fit at LEAST 3 mechanical HDD's, and one SSD, and one DVD RW.

Can all of this fit into a small case? If so, which one? Pictures would be appreciated if anybody owns one.

I can give a reason why not to buy the aforementioned setup (or a part of it) - on H67 you won't be able to OC at all, so an i5 2400 - 2500 should save you a few pennies and perform the same.

About the cases, this one could fit the bill:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4072/s...cool-not-quiet
...or one of these:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cas...itx-cases.html
...or;
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cas...-case-review/1

With that many disks though you may want to go for a µATX in stead of an ITX or to buy a NAS/build storage server.

Yeah I am new to SFF as well. Just finished up my second small build. You would be hard pressed to fit that many drives into an ITX unless maybe it was one of the larger ITX case. But at that point, you may as well just go mATX as you'll have more options as far as boards...

SFF is addictive just so you know, will probably give you the build bug soon after...

I wasn't thinking iTX. I was thinking mATX. And I definitely do NOT want an HTPC style case. I was thinking more along the lines of one of those cube shaped cases . Something that's stylish and sleek...that could be easy to carry to a LAN.

So no overclocking with a small board? Sigh, guess I'm sticking to regular ATX then.

As much as I wanted a SFF rig...I'm not willing to lose out on overclocking.

the only real down side on going to a small form factor pc that i can see is that you wont have as many expansion slots, so Xfire and sli are doable but wont fit any thing else. there are plenty of cases that would fit what you need the only problem would be if you want to water cool. the case selection for that is low and harder then mid tower and full tower.

the build that you came up with would fit perfectly in a matx case.

EDIT: no overclocking on a Matx mb is a lie. im on one and its clocks like a champ. all tho its a 1156.

I could care less about SLI / Crossfire honestly. It WOULD be nice to fit a 570 + GT240. But I could settle on JUST the 570.

My other concern is drive space. 3x mechanical hard drives, 1x SSD, 1x DVDRW is what I have to be able to fit...minimum.

Water cooling I will NEVER do. I was going to buy like a Corsair H50 for it. That's as close to water cooling as I'll ever go.

there are a few cases that fit up to 9" cards in there so that's just about every card out there. as for the hdd's there usually room for at least 3 hdd and you could ether put the ssd in the external drive area with an adapter or stick some double sided tape and stick it to the bottom or something like that.

I believe that the point was that overclocking would be limited because of the H67 chipset, not because of it being mATX.... as a P67 board would OC just fine....

for a SB build you want to find a p67 motherboard as those will overclock to your liking. the problem with that is there are very few at the moment because of the recall they had. hence the reason i went with a 1156.

case wise i really want a Arc Mini but there hard to get a hold of.
