Can a PC case affect wi-fi?

Thread Starter
I've recently moved back into the parent house and Have set my Cosmos S up with the wi-fi router directly behind my case.

My moms lap top is having connection issues but every other wi-fi device in the house gets full connection and has no problems.

Is/can computer cases affect wi-fi signal?

It's metal and in the way. Of course it can block a directional sinal.

Why would you bury your networking devices like that?

Everything actually impedes a wifi signl. Some more greatly than others but still. Just having hot humid weather can impede it. I would remove the cage and set it free but just be careful not to drop or hit anything on it as it now has no protection.

If the router has antennas try moving them in different directions and see if that helps. If your moms lappy has vista or better have her install vista stumbler and check against your antenna movements. As everyone has stated their are many things that can effect a signal. The optimal position for router is a line-of-sight set up and not hidden behind other objects, espically big metal cases.
