RAID 1 faulting HDD

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

My friend had a RAID 1 setup on his server, 2 identical HDD's.
Unfortunately his RAID health status when booting up is indicating that one is faulting and he has noticed a degrade in performance.

My question is - if he takes the faulty HDD out (i guess trial and error to discover which one it is) Will his server still function until his new replacement arrives? (as his HDD's are still under warranty)

If it does work fine with just the 1 HDD - when his new one arrives what would be the proccess for him to start mirroring the data over to the replacement once its hooked up?

Thanks in advance.

1) Power Down
2) Remove faulty drive
3) Add new drive
4) Boot into RAID controller
5) Add new drive to existing RAID array + save/exit
6) Allow PC to transfer all data from current disk to new.
7) Profit.

And yes, fine with using one drive until replacement arrives (assuming the one drive doesn't fail in that time frame as well).

That is the point behind RAID1. He should now be glad he set it up that way.
