Do you own one that you can confirm this?

Unfortunately that feature DID NOT make it into the retail version. The bios switch merely overclocks the card from 800MHz to 880Mhz and doesn't unlock any shaders. I have checked both bios settings using the latest GPU-Z and there are some other people complaining about it over at TechPowerUP as well.

Apparently it also cannot be unlocked in the conventional way by flashing it with a 6970 bios but I'm not willing to void my warranty to find out.

So you don't have any proof other than the early Jan reviews? Retail boards are different.

I have a HIS 6950 2GB. It is a ref design, I flashed it to 6970 w/no probs. The switch is for the primary/backup BIOS.

I think if you buy reference you should be ok... I wouldnt go PC just because of the funny business thats going on there. Asus, Sapphire, Gigabyte, and HIS have seemed to unlock well.
