Heres to you, wires and cables...

Heres to you, wires and cables...

You have been keeping us connected through and through. Making sure all of our computers ping in between each other. Making sure we have enough current into our power supplies. Transmitting data through the ground between one phone to the other. Allowing us to watch a TV station out of Baghdad, Iraq.

But after one hundred years of marriage, we're sick of you. Everyone wants wireless. Wireless power, wireless networking, wireless phones, wireless hard drives (don't lie, you all know you want it). And I'm sorry to say this, but, I think we're gonna need to stop seeing each other for awhile. And maybe, just maybe, I will still bust out my trusty Cat 5e ethernet cable just to plug you in one more time.

-------------

I don't know, I was just thinking about this when I got to work. Does anyone really even think about how underappreciated our wires and cables are? I mean sure, they piss us off when they get tangled up, but seriously, they are still our foundation in the electronic world. Lets show a bit of appreciation for them.

I like my wires

Without them my desk & computer would be too bare.

I feel much more comfortable having a gently tangled twine of cords & cables above and below my desk as opposed to having none at all. It would feel too sterile & unnatural having nothing there.

Although I wouldn't mind Wireless DVI/HDMI to be the new standard.
And if anyone invents wireless power cables let me know

There is, but its still extremely experimental. Uses radio signals somehow. I forget exactly how it works, but it does.

Correct. BUT, it is a proof of concept and will be developed until it is completely reliable. I personally give it no more than 5 years before this sort of thing is common.

Nikola Tesla supposedly did it, but the U.S. Government confiscated all his research upon his death so, no-one knows for sure.

I like cables.

Wires suck but cables are manly and tough.

It feels cOmfoting when I wriggle my toes into the spidersweb of power nestled under my desk.
