Question about upgrading Ram

Thread Starter
I currently have G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB DDR3 2000

I got my first Low Memory warning today while gaming so I guess it is time to add some ram.

I am not sure what to do though.
I want to spend less than $100.
I'm keeping my current ram and I am just adding to it.

I'm stuck wondering if I should just add another 2x2GB(4gb) set of 2000/2133 or if I should get 2x4GB (8gb) set of 1600/1333.

I'm mostly debating between these two...

2133 @ $75
1333 @ $75

Personally i would go with something close to what your current memory is rated at, the 2133 you have there looks more suitable than the 1333 to mix-n-match.

I would get the 4GB kit.
same amount of memory overall, and better performance to boot.

He doesn't really have a kit listed there that is better performance than his current tridents, the 2133 should be very close to the same performance, might be able to get the same timings at 2000Mhz as the kit he has now...

What I have now and everything I am looking at are ripjaws.

I'm wanting this build to last me another 2 or 3 years so I'm wondering if the benefit of having 12GB of ram with lower speeds is better than 8GB of ram with higher speeds or vice versa.

If you use memory hungry apps like some of the adobe editing ones you can benefit more from the extra ram, for gaming & general usage 8Gb should be plenty.

12GB is overkill, and having ram with different sets of timing can be a real issue.

i would get a 6Gb kit ( 3 X 2GB), i know that 1156 do not use triple channel, but this technology doesn't affect system performance at all
