NH-D14 vs Water

Thread Starter
I currently have a D14 on my i7 950, oc'd to 4.0, loading at 67. I'm thinking about replacing my gtx460 with a 580 (or similar) in the summer. If I were to build a custom loop, for both the GPU and CPU, how much cooler could I run, on average?

I've seen some similar threads in searches, but I couldn't find anything that answered my question. If you know of a thread, please link it.

going water would probably not be worth it for cpu oc'ing, as you are already pretty close to the limit, but if you want to extend the life of your cpu, and possibly oc the 580, I would go for it.

Depending on the quality of the loop, you will lose a few degrees. The WC loop would really shine more if you clocked that chip a bit higher than just 4.0. 67C at load is already really good, but setting up a loop for only 4.0GHz just isn't worth it.

There are also a lot of other factors to consider. How is your case airflow? What are your ambient temps? How much voltage are you using/will you use? Etc. etc.

Depends on your ambient temps. I run my i930 at 4.2 24/7 and i run mid 60's with folding keeping my proc at 100%. If i open my window in my room to let cold air in my temps drop 10 centigrade. When I was stability testing I ran in the 50's at 4.0 40s with cold air from outside. Given the processors are of the same family I would gander that it would let you run in the 40-50 c range 100% load.
