[W8] Windows 8 to have restore to factory setting option and other features - Page 3

Who cares about putting your PC to sleep. If you are not running WCG on the thing you need to wake up and do your part to help your community. If you have a high powered or even middle of the road laptop you should be running WCG whenever you can. C'mon people stop being so frickin' selfish!

Thinner? You mean a smaller install? I really hope so. Mac OS X recently removed a bit of bloat, and I believe Microsoft should do that as well.

Take a look at this video: http://downloadsquad.switched.com/20...tween-in-just/

While it's great Microsoft did an amazing job with backwards compatibility, it's time they cut the cord. Probably would gain quite a bit of speed and lose a considerable amount of bloat if all backwards compatibility from before XP was removed. Completely.

If speed is increased then I'm all for dropping backwards compatibility.

As for install size, meh. Unless you're running a small capacity SSD, does it matter? Install time, as a home user is slightly less important than the colour of your SATA cables. Insert OS disc > click 'okay', 'next' etc. > go and do something else...

I'm slightly worried by how much MS might try and tie Win 8 to 'the cloud' and specifically Win Live; I like Gmail and I like Skype. Beyond Office and my OS, I'm Microsoft-free.

Factory-reset sounds good. Will the result be identical to a clean install on a formatted hard drive?

Am I misinformed but isn't it better to just delete the partition and start it raw anyway?

Depends on the person and how well the factory settings works.

How much of factory reset? Entire programs, media, or anything on OS drive deleted and Windows is on a fresh registry (again), or will it delete configuration files, minor data such as cookies?

Its like an average person with little no tech would benefit without having the hassle of doing a reinstall. Course say there is a virus/malware/etc on it, how would a factory reset do? Reformat is the best option if it is not removable but why reformat if reset could wipe it for you?

Just my

Cheers

Didn't they just release Win 7 a year and half ago????

What's wrong with Win 7? Why do they have to release another so quickly? I'm planning on getting an SSD along with Win 7 in the next month or two, do I have to waste another $200 when this junk comes out later this year? Ughh...

Windows XP was the only OS where they didn't release a new one every 2-3 years.
