What's wrong with Win 7? Why do they have to release another so quickly? I'm planning on getting an SSD along with Win 7 in the next month or two, do I have to waste another $200 when this junk comes out later this year? Ughh...
It's not coming out until 2012, if that.

Yup. Win 95->98->98se->ME->XP.

I hope it comes out in late 2013

This is so frustrating though. Every two years they wanna come out with a new OS? That complicates everything and kills support for the earlier versions so much quicker. Isn't it better to have a new release every 4-5 years where everyone can have 1 single homogeneous product instead of over-saturating the market with 4 different versions of their product? What's sooo wrong with Windows 7????

Kinda funny you say that, my laptop (UEFI instead of BIOS) sleeps and reboots instantly, hell, if I press the on button before I sit down, its done and ready to go by the time I've sat down.

how would they make money?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

you need to start looking it as a business standpoint.

Well, from a business stand point of course it's better, but you don't want to piss off consumers. If people wise up to the fact that that the next version is just sidegrade, then they won't buy it anymore. What's next, Windows 9 in 2014? People won't buy that. You gotta trick people into thinking they actually need it by releasing a "huge brand new OS" every 4-5 years, not one every 2 years. Even the general public (the majority who are stupid), will wise up to that fact.

And who forces you to buy new OS exactly?

They released Vista after 5 years and look what happened. Too many changes complicated compatibility, that's why they release OS every 3 years, so shifting towards their vision is not so painful for the consumers.

If every company would adopt this philosophy, then people would still be using Pentium 4 processors and watching movies on their CRT displays.

Stop hating.

Bah. All of this will change so much before the final product anyway, what does it matter to debate such a feature right now?

But am I the only one that was hoping the user icon the bottom right was actually native virtual desktops? Wishful thinking, I guess.

Is it really though? The only people I know who have upgraded their old machines to Win7 are the tech crowd like us. No "common users" seem to upgrade ever really in my experience. Unless of course they buy an entire new machine. But again, it seems that most common users just use the same crappy PC until it burns to the ground or is so infested with malware that even wiping the HDD 100 times isn't comforting. So just like you said, people aren't going to go out and get the next big thing right away.

Of course there are those people that do nothing but play solitaire and surf the net who always have to have the latest gaming rig. Those people piss me off

Not to start this back up (sorry!) but all this means is that Geek Squad will have another way to charge the ignorant out the ass for something that takes 2-3 minutes and is built right into Windows. In other words, more money for doing absolutely nothing. Sounds like a gold mine for you guys to me!

I wish Microsoft integrated a simple version of Acronis into Win8.
