How do I backup my games?

Thread Starter
As title says. I was looking at a couple of my game dvd's and notice they seems to be taking a beating inside the ROM I guess. I do not want these to become unplayable like I have had games in the past. Whats the best way to back them up?

Use free software to create an ISO of the game and store it. You can later mount the ISO using a virtual DVD drive software, or burn the ISO to a DVD. Personally, I keep them archived on my storage drive, and mount the image when I want to reinstall. Much faster than installing via DVD.

I know that most game shops will buff them out for you for free. If you ask nice, etc. But i use imgburn to back all my stuff up. It is 100% free and has a small footprint install.

Thanks for the quick help guys. I figured I would have to create an ISO. Will give a try.

Hey, one more question guys? Since I now have an ISO of the disk on my hard drive. Can I play the game without the CD/DVD somehow?

Not sure we can talk about that, but you could always try.

Many games have a CD check that will identify a virtual drive, or just plain not recognize a mounted ISO as the actual CD check. This is a very annoying feature of some games to me.

Some work and most do not ( this has been my experience).
