Asus Extreme III Formula

Hey guys,

I just need someone to explain the PCI Express x16 on this motherboard.

PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (support x16; x16/x16; x16/x8/x8 configurations)

The way I understand it is that all three PCI Express x16 ports on this board are the same, and if I plug two Video Cards to any of them, they will run at Dual x16/x16 mode? Is this correct?

To be more specific, GPU1 would go to the very 1st PCI Express x16 slot and GPU2 would to to the 3rd (bottom) PCI Express x16 slot and it would they both would run at dual x16/x16 mode?

I assume you are talking about the Rampage III Formula not the Extreme...

Yes all three are capable of X16 so you can place your cards in the first and last slot and get dual x16 performance while giving your cards room to breathe and stay cool. That's the advantage to this board.

Yes, you are correct. I was talking about the Formula, I got all mixed up looking at all these motherboards.

Yeah, I have this X58 sabertooth by Asus but the damn PCI x16 are so close from each other that when I plugged my gtx570's the GPU 1 runs at 98C with maxed out fan speed.

Thanks a lot man!
