GTX 460 vs ATI 6850(yes another one)

Thread Starter
Hi guys! Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm planning to buy either one of these cards and since both are almost identical in performance, I just want to ask how well will these guys fare in the near future?

I was thinking that if I buy a GTX 460 I could use it later on as a physx card if I build a new rig but some are saying that physx is probably gonna die or should I just stick with the 6850 and save a bit of cash (since it's cheaper) but won't use it in the future since If I do build a new gaming rig I would probably want a much more powerful single card solution.

I won't be playing games with the physx turned on presently since I believe the performance hit is too big for a single card but since I won't make use of its physx maybe I should just go for the 6850 but I won't be able to reuse it in the future like a physx card. I will be gaming at 1600x900. And one more thing, would there be a compatibility problem with my motherboard and the video card?
Thanks!

What is your psu? Can it support either of those cards? The 6850 is less power hungry. Also if you think you need to upgrade cf 6850s or sli 460s are both powerful setups and the second card will be cheaper down the road.

Go for whichever is cheaper, they're within 1-2% of the performance of one another. The 6850 and the 460 are both great overclockers. The 460 typically uses less power, and in sli, it is much better.

That means if crossfiring later is an option, the 6850 is probably the better choice. Otherwise, base your decision entirely on price and/or any other non-performance factors you can think of.
(e.g. individual card quality. Cooler quality etc. Look up reviews for the particular models you're looking at online).
