Yes.

Some motherboards take both of the 4 pin plugs, some only take 1.

Hopefully this is the fix....

edit: have you tried swearing at the PC, threatening it and telling it you'll buy a laptop from Dell if it doesn't pull itself together... always worth a try

I'm out of suggestions, I'm afraid.

But just to check,

1. you're running the monitor from the onboard video output (with the GPU taken off the mobo)

2. power supply is connected to the mobo

3. the PC turns on but the monitor stays on standby

4. you've reset the BIOS*

*take the battery off the mobo, unplug the powersupply from the back of the PC and pressed the 'on' / 'off' button on the front of the case 5-10 times

the 4 and 4 = 1 x 8 pin...

My turn for a bad picture - my PSU has 2 x 4 pin plugs. They both go into the powerdraw for the mobo.

yes, 4+4=8! but the 4/4 doesn't match the socket, only 1 of the 4/4 fits

edit- there's a lonely 6 pin, should i try that?
