I have finally walked away from Nvidia and will be a 1st time AMD/ATI owner Which of the two do you think is a better buy and single gpu setup using a resolution of 1600x900? Remember that the TOXIC can be OC'ed over 1GHz (not sure how much performance gain that is...) while it is known that the 6900 series are not considered as good OC'ers. The 6870 TOXIC 1gb is $240 and the 6950 1gb is $224 after rebate. Thanks in advance

The 6950 will be faster regardless of whether you OC the 6870 or not.

Get a 2gb reference 6950 and unlock it to a 6970, you can get them for $240, or a GTX 560 Ti.

I'm having no luck finding a 6950 2gb for $240...please link me to this amazing deal.

Stock HD 6950 > 1GHz+ HD 6870 (not by much, but it is)

Unlocking the 6950 only gives you a 3% boost. A locked 6950 needs a ~910/1350 OC to match the performance of a stock 6970 (880/1375). My unlocked/overclocked 6950 (920/1375) was about 14% faster than stock.

Cheapest 6950's on Newegg:
- 1GB: $245 (or $225 AR)
- 2GB: $275 (or $250 AR)

Dang if the 6950 is cheaper grab it. But this Sapphire has a good price tag, not toxic though.

I think the ~12% price increase of the 6950 1GB is worth the > 15% performance increase. That's even assuming the 6870 could overclock well.

Yeah me too. I voted for the 6950. I had a 6850 and 6870 before choosing the 5870 I have now. If I was gonna crossfire I probably woulda kept the 6870 but Im not. Looking at GTX 570 next.
