The game becomes GPU limited when you have Athlon II X4 or i3, thats why the results are identical between those and higher end CPUs (remember that 1 fps or less is within margin of error)

No crysis 2 does massive amounts of cpu based physics. It's not a gpu bound or cpu bound thing at all. It's just they can't push the cpu 100 percent or the system goes nuts. The most you can push any code with an engine is around 85 plus percent or else it's system freeze. So the engine on crysis 2 with a slow cpu and a fast video card is going to be running the cpu full tilt and idling the video card like crazy. You could probably throw half the video card at it on the celerons and it would give exact same frame rates. Because in that case it would go from a 30 percent gpu usage to a 60 percent gpu usage.
The problem with cpu physics is you have to frequently take the cpu out of the game so the videocard can do busmastering. If the cpu is pushed too hard it will have problems responding to the interrupt requests. Just the difference in frame rates from an athlon x2 220 to athlon x2 250 is showing that it cares a lot about clock speed. The 220 is a 2.8 ghz and the 250 is a continuous improvement (amd constantly improves the manufacturing process making for slightly faster chips every couple months.) 3.0 ghz chip. That's 8 more frames a second from 200 mhz. If you were overclocking a 220 to 3.4 ghz you'd probably match the 49 frames per second top end. All these fast core i7's in the test are just idling.

It shows that newer architecture DOES matter.

Unlike those whom believe that the frequency and 4 cores are the most important.
yes, it is faster... whilst the quad is not overclocked (i presume anyway) and the game itself rely's on the gpu not cpu.

Also DDR1333MHz on Q6600 and other socket 775 CPUs? Really?
People know that most games become more CPU dependent at lower resolutions and more strictly based on the GPU peformance at higher resolutions. This is to show that this game takes into account the CPU performance even at higher resolutions, 1080p being a popular one.

Re-read his comment again. He meant that if you used a SLI/tri-SLI setup with both CPUs the 2500K will come out on top.
