Well, Steam is now available for OSX. Obviously there's not nearly as many hardcore titles compared to Windows, but there are some. Starcraft 2 amongst them. But people here spend that much on cases and other mods easily. I'm sure several folks here have spent thousands on their rigs over the years. I know I have...I used to keep mine updated every time a new CPU or video card came out. That cost adds up, and for what? To squeeze a few extra points out of a benchmark or to gain that extra notch under graphical settings? I stopped upgrading my PC a long time ago because it became too expensive. Point is, people have different priorities.

Do you have a linky, I'd like to read that.

I spent $1700 on my iMac and have never had an endless beach ball error...

The sound quality is perfectly fine for 99% of the population. If you're using stock earbuds yea, it's bad. But even a $10 set drastically makes a difference.

I don't think MacPro's are for regular consumers. They're geared more towards the prosumer or professional. Super expensive? Sure. But I'm sure whoever buys them has their reasons.

But don't forget about that revolutionary keyboard that--it stole from Sony--it incoporates.
Unless you travel with your laptop an awful lot, you really don't need a replaceable battery. Wouldnt most people travel with their A/C adapter anyway? For uber mobility purposes sure people want things like that. Again, different strokes for different folks. No one keeps a laptop under load for 6 hours either, kinda silly. And every laptop gets hot. I know it's called a laptop and the name implies that's where it'll sit, but you CAN actually place the laptop on a table or elsewhere.

Why is this thread still going? Because people care way too much about things they don't like instead of things they like. Especially on OCN.

Of course that beach ball thing is completely anecdotal and unwarranted, but this is ridiculous misinformation.

Mac Pro's have always been cheaper to par pricing compared to HP and Dell equivalent workstations.

Apple fanboy site Anandtech wrote this:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/3969/a...-2010-review/1

Despite the high cost of entry, historically the Apple tax has been nonexistent on the Mac Pro. I shopped around Dell and HP’s websites to see if I could find similarly configured systems to the new Mac Pro. For the most part Apple was priced identically if not cheaper than Dell and HP for both the single and dual-socket Mac Pros:

if you’re buying in this class of products Apple is price competitive. This isn’t anything new. I ran the same comparison in our first Mac Pro review and came out with similar results.

Later, after they factored in apple care, the Mac Pro did come out to be less than 5% more expensive. Two words, resale value.

With a GPU upgrade the lowest of dual cores could play this game :/

Could play it on a $300 computer, easily. Wonder how much the mac equivalent will cost (to the nearest thousandth?).

What it all comes down to is choice, if someone wants a "pretty" or "trendy" computer at the cost of performance and ability, then by all means fine. However, don't come around telling me that your Macbook is better than my I7-950@ 4.2ghz with crossfire 5870's, and when I ask why you think your Mac is better you say "Because it's a Mac and it's a laptop and desktops are old technology".

You have no idea how many times I've been told by "tech savvy" people that no one buys desktops anymore and that laptops are way better.

This thread has long run its course; I'm not sure why I left it open for so long since it's an opinion article, and as always opinion articles aren't news (by definition, editorials are purely opinion). I do appreciate how relatively civil the discussions have been but things have gotten too tense between members too many times due to articles like this. Closed.
