my twin sister has an ipad and a ipod touch (go figure huh) and on top of that her phone is android based (don't remember which one, i think it is a samsung), and she has a windows laptop.
she got the ipad cause she used her touch mainly to watch videos, music and read books on it, she felt the screen was to small to fully enjoy the movies and books (and plus it is a 8gb model.) so she bought a 64 gb wifi+3g (which she is ticked off at, cause the moron at the apple store told her that it was capable of using tmobiles 3g, i tried telling it could only use at&t's, but she felt "reassured" by the genius bar moron.) she gave her touch to her kids (which upset me, cause she told me she was going to give it to me instead, but i'm happy she gave me her motorola cliq with android and a 16gb sd card.)
if it isn't obvious my sister has more money that she knows what to do with at times.
now her phone, she just uses as a phone, which boggles the mind, and her laptop, she does what any one does with a windows laptop, she lets it gets virused up and calls tech support to fix it.
i've tried for the last few years to get her to buy an iphone, cut out the middle man (cause she will carry around the phone and the touch, now the ipad in its place, which is a decent size, can't fit in the pocket like the touch/iphone can.)
i had to tell you all that, to get to my point. ipad/iphone currently locked into at&t and now verizon, but it doesn't work with tmobiles 3g, she's been with tmobile, since it became tmobile from voicestream. she stays with them cause she's been grandfathered into this really awesome custom plan (unlimited nights/weekends, free long distance world wide(this is important cause her husband is in the navy and constantly abroad every six months), 3k any time minutes, unlimited data, mobile to mobile, fav fives, unlimited text, all on 5 lines. we share a family plan, for what it would cost if she got a new contract and did all that on only 2 lines.) on top of that, she's constantly upgrading to new phones every year, without contract extensions.
tmobile does know how to treat loyal customers imho. she is in the process of wanting to sale her ipad, for t-mobile solution. i can see this being the case for a lot of ppl, if they go 3g, and do not already have a contract with at&t or verizon, but another carrier that the ipad does not support.
yeah she can use the edge in tmobile with the ipad, but seriously thats like saying "use dial up, you will be fine."
i think apple needs to go further in offering more carriers if they want the ipad to be seriously considered in the future for 3g/4g platform. i personally will not buy one due to this fact, and will be going with an android solution that will work with tmobile.
