So yeah. My first build basically, critique and suggestions are welcome.

Everything's pretty much finalized by now, though I still would like some comments, criticism, and suggestions.

Intel Core i7-950 @ 3.06GHz (SpeedSteppable to 3.33GHz)
Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 (ATX)
Micro Center 4GB DDR3-1333 RAM
Palit GeForce GT 430 (1GB DDR3)
Hitachi Deskstar 1TB (7200rpm)
Antec Sonata III Silent Computing + 500w Antec EarthWatts PSU (ATX)
Sony Optiarc DVD+/-RW (DL) 24x SATA Drive
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I just want some confirmation that everything is compatible and I won't run into any space problems. (Looks like I won't, but it doesn't hurt to check with a second source, does it? =P)

I'll be using this rig for video production (Sony Vegas 10), picture editing (Photoshop), flash animations, web development/game development.
I also game a bit (Crysis, Half-Life 2, and the like)
I will be running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Thanks.

This wouldn't happen to be Kevin, would it?
Anyways, I'll be back with suggestions and whatnot.
Too late at night.
Thanks for stealing my build log structure but that's okay

Budget?

Yep. It's me. =P

Budget's anything within $900 I'd say (then again I really doubt it'd go that high with what I do anyway :V)

Rayner mentioned you btw. I lol'd.

What'd he say?

And my build is like 7000ish.

Rayner... needs help. I'm apparently seen as the go-to computer guy for everything...including copying files. Once I messed with him by copying files using the command prompt. =P

ANYYYWAYY.

Someone in my introduction thread mentioned about the Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H as an alternative to my Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2V mobo. From what I can see, both are utilizing the LGA 1156 spec, and apparently the suggested one has 10/100/1000 LAN. Both are MicroATX (my case is a MicroATX case), and the GA-H55-UD2H has a Realtek ALC889 integrated sound card (not that I really care).

Is the upgrade really worth it? :V

Yeah. I was that guy last year. I didn't do any work in English and managed a 95. Oh, what high school? And are you still in robotics?

On topic:

Both have 10/100/1000 LAN.
The main difference between the one you picked out and the one that was suggest is the number of available memory slots. The one you picked out has 2 slots, while the one that was suggested has 4. Since you are using two sticks of 2GB RAM, the one you picked out should be fine. All the other specs are minor changes and probably won't affect anything at all. The one you picked out seems to have more slots overall for other things, like 1 more video port, 1 more SATA 3.0, 2 more USB 2.0, but 2 less onboard USB. Also it is .73 inch shorter widthwise but that doesn't matter.

You may want to upgrade your RAM to 8 GB with something like this G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 and your current motherboard, or upgrade to the suggested motherboard and buy two packs of the RAM you already picked out. You might not need it, but futureproofing is the way to go. If you wanted to upgrade your RAM then you should upgrade the motherboard, as 4 slots is always better than 2. It'll only cost about 10 dollars over the 8GB RAM pack.

Get yourself a good mouse, preferably laser, and a good keyboard as well. I like the mac keyboards with the overly flat keys.

Hmm, wanna help me with some 3D rendering for my Latin project?

We never do anything in English. We nicknamed it Prison. Me and Jeanny quit Robotics since it was filled with noobs and whatnot <>''

On topic:
Don't really plan to do SLI or anything like that (as intensive as Project Yin may get, my code's improved since that buggy version you saw last year), so I guess I'll stick with my original board.

As far as futureproofing goes, I'm actually living off with 3GB of RAM right now, though, does RAM even ... help Vegas render times? IIRC Vegas 10 has CUDA rendering.

My mouse is laser (Logitech), and my keyboard/mouse are both wireless. And yes, Apple keyboards are awesome.

The price of the entire thing as of now is... $693. (I added an USB Belkin Wifi Adapter for haxy purposes)

And sure, about the 3D render. I added ... a lot more shaders to Project Yin now. =P
Also added direct framedumping features, so the final movie will run at 60fps constantly, no matter how crappy your computer is.

Even more offtopic:
If you want a reimuhakurei.net domain, just ask. =P 500GB of bandwidth, resets every month, 15GB disk space, and 128 (actually 256 "burstable") RAM on that VPS. And I happen to have 2 of them.

I don't need the domain right now, but I might just decide to take you up on your offer one day.
