So... My girlfriend's aging laptop desperately needs to be replaced and she wants me to build her a computer. I agreed with one caveat. I get to do things my way. So, while this is a budget-oriented build, I'll probably be implementing watercooling for the processor and graphics and I'll definitely be giving it the best I've got.

The name is because the build will be silver, white and aquamarine light blue themed and one of our cats, Pixel, is all white with blue eyes. He got his name because when he was a kitten he had a single black spot on his forehead and was all white otherwise.

The Gear
Case - Lian Li PC-A05NA
PSU - Seasonic X650 Gold
Motherboard - Asus P5E X38 Chipset - Flashed to Rampage Formula 0803 BIOS
Processor - Intel Core2Quad Q9550
GPU - Zotac 8800GT AMP! Edition 512MB
RAM - Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR2 1066 Dual Channel Kit
HDD - Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB

Water Cooling
CPU Block - Custom CPU block by Emir - Copper/Acrylic
GPU Block - EK FC88-GT G92 Full Cover - Copper/Acrylic
Radiator - ThermoChill PA120.3 - Ultrasonically Cleaned and 100% Flux Free!!! This is how it's done...
Pump - Laing DDC 10w
Reservoir - XSPC Pump Top Reservoir Combo

I anticipate that this build will take me a year or so to finish. I plan on taking my time and doing things right. It's the least my lady deserves.

Eventually it'll get another 4gb ram and a new Nvidia card when I can afford it. She's a physicist and needs something to be able to do heavy parallel computations and right now the 8800GT is what I had on hand so it'll have to do.

Motherboard

So this came in SUPER nice condition. Previous owner took great care of it! I even got the IO shield and sound card... All in original box!!

Never getting another case that's not a LianLi. Ever again. This thing is f*$#ing brilliant. Gotta find a good source for aluminum. I've got to make a new front panel and drive cage... Any recommendations? Also, did I say that I'm totally amazed at LianLi engineering?? This thing is beautiful!!!!

Total sex. I'm never not getting another LianLi case ever again... I'm smitten.

Oh! Naked front!

Close up.

Stock innards.

Up top. This is going to be changed drastically... Big giant radiator incoming!

Stock LianLi fan... This is going to be super easy to sleeve. But do I want to replace it with a Nexus Silent or a Yate Loon 12SL?

Front panel connectors... Getting sleeved as soon as I can throw some money at Nils.

Power and Reset buttons... This is a good example of why I really really REALLY love LianLi already after one day of having this case. Everything is just straight to the point, no bull****.

I may or may not do anything with the case, as far as paint or powdercoating goes... Depends what the budget allows. At the moment I'm looking at a decrease in my pay coming up soon, so things will be tight. Glad I bought this all when I could afford it!!

It's finally here!!!

Customs really did a job banging this one around...

Front of the case... naked. PSU installed. Fan will be gone soon enough.

You can't really see because of the lighting, but the connectors on the PSU for the 24 pin are the ones closest to the inside and thus the connector on the motherboard. This is going to be a tight fit.

Another tight fit. The PA120.3 literally takes up the entire open space at the top of the case.

The UberRad in all her glory! Bow to your leader!

The only bent fins on the whole thing. Suggestions for fixing? I'm assuming small tool and very carefully, eh?

A shot for perspective, outside the case. It's as deep as the case itself... Man this is more than I bargained for.

Part of the modding - phase 1. Eventually I'll be replacing the front of the case with something more... custom. For now, I'm just modding the drive bay covers to fit stuff. 3.5" cover will hold the ports that were on the top of the case. They no longer fit there, obviously.

DVD stealthed cover.... naked drive... set in place. The standard black drive face just doesn't fit in the plan.

Top case all masked off. I haven't quite decided how I'm going to do this.

So... Stage one will consist of stealthing the DVD drive, re-placing the front panel USB and audio ports and figuring out exactly how I'm going to mount the radiator and cut up the top. I want this to look as clean as possible, so I'm thinking of cutting a grille pattern in the top and throwing some mesh in between the top and the rad. Also the thought has crossed my mind of not physically attaching the rad to the top cover, but rather using the holes on the side of the rad for mounting it to the top rails of the case. This way there aren't any ugly screws outside of the case, keeping things more in line with the LianLi aesthetic. Also, I'll be getting rid of the fan in the front of the case and somehow using that area for the pump/res combo. How that will be mounted is yet to be determined though. Clearance will be tight with this - DDC 350, XSPC Reservoir Top and a rotary 90 on the top...

Cutting begins TOMORROW!!!!

Thanks Stuff! Actually it's a crappy old Nikon Coolpix S9, but I've learned to take semi-decent pictures... I need to build up my photography skills before getting a good camera. Yeah the rad is pretty insane. In real life this thing is massive compared to the case.

Thanks Ren! Me too. Truthfully, I have no idea how it will turn out - as far as execution goes anyway... Every build I do I learn more and more and my skillset grows. It's the only surefire way to get good at something is to practice as much as possible!

... not all deltas are loud.. Some are really quite. Ever one is just used to hearing the PFB's and FFB's (The screamers)

AFB's are a nice bunch. Good CFM and SP with moderate dBa. And they love fan controllers!

This one started UNDER 4.0v!

Sorry to disappoint... Already got GentleTyphoons. Also, I can only fit two 25mm wide fans... I have yet to see if I can squeeze a Scythe KazeSlim in between the rad and the optical drive. Won't know til I mount the rad and try!
Aww and Aww

I hate cases that only support 25mm fans. This HAF 912 does and the only reason i kept it was because i mange to squeeze the fans in...
I had to use a couple of my FFB1212EH

You will hate this fan. SHE IS A SCREAMER! She refuses to turn on under 10V and it feels fragile..

But that 150CFM of POWER!

Pretty smart going water cooling, now she can't leave you. If she does who will maintain the loop?

The other thing to keep in mind, which it is too late for now, is to build the computer for the person, not what you think is cool.
