PSU for 3x470 and 2500k

Thread Starter
I'm about to buy a new computer. Idea was to go with 2500k and OC it to 4.5k (since I've read it's fairly simple to do with a good air cooler). I currently have a GTX470 in my current computer that I will move over, as well as adding another one for sli. I had planned to use the Seasonic X-850 as PSU, but lately I've began to contemplate getting a third GTX470.

Based on this test I should be fine with a 800W PSU even for 3-way sli. But how will OC:ing the 2500k to 4.5k affect things?

In this review the Seasonic X-850 is supposed to handle well over 1k W.

Will the X-850 be suitable for my needs, or will I have to get another? If so, recommendations?

Oh, how much power does things like a SSD, 7.2k RPM HDD, Blueray drive, various fans use?

I recommend 1000w for 3 470s. Also you'll need six 6 pin pci-E cables for all your cards.

This psu is pretty good.

Unfortunately that PSU doesn't seem to be available here in Sweden.

What site are you looking to buy from?

Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, Enermax is some of the brands to look for. 1000w minimum with six 6 pin pci-E power cables is what you should look for also.

I'll probably buy from http://www.webhallen.com/hardvara/da...er/chassi/psu/ if they have the recommended PSU.

But I rather get the best / best bang for the buck PSU than limit myself to a particular store. This was probably the first time ever that I tried to find a computer part and couldn't locate it in any store.

850w would work on three GTX 470's just fine.

Just like to point out that a 4.5ghz Sandy will use -less- power than the system on Guru3d (an i7 965 @ 3.75ghz). Sandy CPUs use quite a bit less power, plus Sandy mobos lack a northbridge.

They also point out they're running a water setup and have cold cathodes, etc.
