PCI-E Ribbon + Sound Card

Thread Starter
So, my Forte is picking some EMI from the HD 6850, very noticeable when the heapdhone amp jack is used.

So I'm trying to move it away. The second PCI-Ex1 slot is blocked, and the sound card won't work on the second PCI-Ex16 slot.

So I heard about PCI-E ribbon cables. Would using one (about 17cm long) cause problems with a sound card?

The ribbon card may act like an antenna and capt even more EMI. It may work, maybe someone else who tried it may give you a feedback.

I suggest a different solution, to modd the soundcard into a Faraday cage. You could do out of plastic/cartboard a sort of cage that envelops the sound card and leaves only 2 openings - for the PCIe slot and for the connectors at the rear. You can create the Faraday cage by putting tin/aluminum foil over this cage and connect it to the ground (between the cage & the ground if you want to get creative you could put a low pass filter circuit too). One disadvantage would be the card doen't really get proper ventilation, but for example in the case of my Audigy24 this wouldn't be a problem.
