GPU overheat because of sound card?

Hello, I currently have two GTX 470 in my build, one with stock cooler and one above that-AMP! edition. I think thats the best solution for the coolness?

Anyhow I'm thinking of getting an Asus Xonar DX because I want a good sound card and I've heard good thoughts about it. It's going to be under my stock 470 and be around 1-2 cm under the 470's fan. Will that effect the heat of my 470?

Is it better to have the 470 AMP! underneath the regular 470 for better cooling and perhaps a Xonar DX under the 470 AMP! ?

I would do some benchmarking in your system to find out which way keeps the cards the coolest, and then just put the sound card in the slot furthest from the video cards. 1-2 cm isn't a lot of room and will hurt your temps. If it's 3-4 cm or farther away, it *SHOULDN'T* hurt temps. More than that, and you're pretty much good to go.

This all assumes that sound cards still don't make much heat. The last one I purchased was about 6 years ago, and they weren't heat monsters back then, so my info could be a little dated here...

Okay, well its only going to cover like a little bit of the fan and I will be changing the GPU thermal paste soon - it will probably work fine i guess...

If it is only covering half of the fan (I.E. half as tall), then yeah at 2 cm away you should be fine.

It should be fine. I have my asus xonar essence stx sandwhiched between two video cards, a 4890 and a 4870x2. My top card runs a little warmer, but only because the sound card blocks a tiny bit of the fan. You should be fine, Iwas far more worried about the sound card over the video cards. However, everything seems to be working fine with my setup after a few months. Hope this helps.

I ran a Creative X-FI between two GTX260 (216, 65nm) and it killed my sound card.

I wouldn't be worried about the GPUs, they have some adequate cooling whereas your soundcard doesn't really.
