P67 Boards, any issues?

Thread Starter
So I've purchased all my parts for a Sandy Bridge build except for the motherboard and CPU (they pulled them from shelves the day before I was going to get mine ). I'm going with a 2500k. All the other parts are listed in my sig rig (even though it's not put together yet, obviously).

Anyway, I've been looking around at those who have P67 boards already and trying to decide which one I should get. I was originally going to go with the Biostar TP67XE, but I've been looking more at the Asus P8P67 Pro. And before I made those decisions, I was looking to go with a Gigabyte.

My main question was are there any boards (whether they are boards that I have already mentioned or not) that are known to have some instability issues, or incompatibilities with RAM, or any sort of common problems? I had read before that the P8P67 Pro has some issues with some RAM, I saw one post even mentioning Ripjaws X in particular. Is this true? Or was it fixed in a BIOS(UEFI?) update? That could be a problem, considering that's the RAM I purchased.

I would also love to hear anyone giving me suggestions (and please provide reasons for the suggestions, otherwise it's just a wasted post because I don't value an opinion that doesn't give reasoning). Please keep in mind that I want to keep the board under $200.

I say all of this assuming that the new revisions of the boards will remain very similar to the original versions, obviously updated to fix the SATA issue.

I want to have the option to go Crossfire in the future, so please keep that in mind as well.

Many thanks for any help, fellow OCN'ers

I'm trying to dig up postings on here for you but truthfully I'm too tired to do it right now. If you read through the tons of posts here you will find issues with both ASUS and Gigabyte. I cannot state which boards specifically but I am 100% sure I read about voltage issues with Gigabyte and ASUS. I haven't read much bad about the Biostar boards.

Right now we are still waiting for the B3 revisions to trickle back in. I've got another couple hours at work so if I find some relevant posts I will link you.

Haha, that's alright. I see people around here posting with troubles, but I'm not sure if they are individual issues or widespread problems.

Yeah, I'm also waiting for the B3 revisions, been checking Newegg several times per day

But it's kind of difficult to pick without learning about if there are common problems with a particular board, as some people will swear by a board then someone will come along and claim that the board is a piece of junk and is instable and dislikes certain types of RAM and blah blah blah.

I'm actually aiming for the ASRock Extreme4 and from the post here, concerning that board, there seems to be very little issues.

I haven't even looked at ASRock, I don't know why not though haha. Although I'm thinking the Biostar TP67XE looks a bit better than it to me as long as it doesn't have any issues, which that is one board I haven't noticed many issues with (if any at all). Although is it a little limited on number of SATA ports, but I only have one 1TB drive and a DVD drive, and don't expect to add more. There is a possibility I could get one more drive for extra space, but I don't think I'll have more than 5 SATA devices.

Features wise I think those boards are very similar. The Extreme4 does offer I think 3 more SATA ports (2 6Gb and 1 3Gb) and Quad SLI/CF support. The price is $10 cheaper

I think the Extreme4 only has 2 PCI-E slots though, I don't think it can do quad (or even tri). At least from what I'm seeing.

Not that it matters to me, I'm sure I would just upgrade to a better single-card (or better two cards) before I went tri or quadfire or SLI.

The way Nvidia explains quad-sli is using 2 Dual-core GPUs in SLI. At least from the image on their site. As you stated, I highly doubt I would ever use SLI or CF and especially not triple or quad LMAO!! I'd rather have 1 powerful card. Although, I did use a 4850x2 for awhile which was a beast of a card but it was god awful loud. Nvidia page on quad-sli

Here are the specs for the Extreme4:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...P67%20Extreme4

Anyways, to my dismay the no new mobos showed up on NewEgg like I heard through a rumor from my roomie who said he read it here...LOL

Oh haha, well two dual-GPU cards makes more sense.

And yeah, I've been checking Newegg like once every hour or so waiting haha. I've had a pile of parts for an entire computer (minus mobo and CPU) collecting dust for over a month now, waiting for these bleeping mobos to return!

Not awesome man I'm only a recent convert in the idea that I actually want to upgrade my PC. I've been talking myself out of it for a long time but last week I gave up the fight and decided to do it. Now I wait impatiently lol.
