Will my PSU handle 4 GPUs? - Page 2

Is going to be close. I have the same cpu, x2 GTX 460 and a GTX 580 folding and it uses 850 watts at full load.

580 consumes a lot too though...i think you're going to be very close OP, and personally I wouldn't do it just because i like to have some headroom...

A GTX 580 uses about twice the power of a GTX 460. You can see it in this chart. 4 GTX 460's are going to use around 600 watts plus another 250 watts for an overclock i7 970.

Anyways. I called Ultra and had them exchange my Ultra X3 1600w PSU for their newer revised X4 model. They shipped me one brand new in the box and just from the looks and quality of everything including the packaging it's amazing.

So I think I will be using this one and offing the Corsair or maybe just keep it for another future system.

I'll have enough power to upgrade to anything.

X4 is lower end than X3. They improved efficiency, but killed performance, and they refused to send the X1600 to reputable reviewers.

I think you made a mistake.

The X4 1000W and X4 1200W are confirmed junk. The 1600W is a different platform though, so we're not sure.

Long story short, Ultra are *******s. Don't buy their stuff.

As I suspected. I know I read several complaints about them in the past on different forums.

They have a few decent units. But it's mixed in with so much crap. And they show little sign of wishing to improve.
