SSD Size

Whilst using Win 7 64 bit home premium, what's the smallest size SSD (any recommendations on brand also helpful) to comfortable host the OS plus core programs (virus scanners, some games)

Games aren't core programs.

A W7 install with common applications like web browser, productivity suite, IDE, media players, benchmark apps will take around 20-30GB. This assumes hibernation is disabled. Games are 1-15GB each...

Why don't you just check your existing system?

i got 3 60 gb vertex 2 are dead, SO c300 and get 64 gb or 128. I got my games i love on ssd still got some free space on it . the 60 gb was fine but could not fit all my programs on it. I will have 2 vertex for sell in hard drives on here i paided 220 for each of the vertex and now selling for 80ish-100ish, but still need to send in , My vertex drive that still works failed on me 1 week ago. I copy the data off it and formant and reput it on it. i copy data after i install the steam games i like. kind of pointless to have steam on it but owell .

Put cash on a sandforce drive. Microcenter has 60gb for 100 .its a sf 1222 drive.
Or get a c300 i would say for c300 get 128 gb min. 60gb writes are lower but reads is what u need.

For an OS drive, I would go with 64gb. It will also give you room to put a few games and or programs that will run much faster than a regular HHD. Oh and the future proof aspect, new os coming in a few years.

I reccomend Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB - Great price $124 @ newegg, and is one of the faster SSD's,it excels in random read speeds

At this point, he may want to wait another month or so for the C400.

60GB. No less...(patches/updates add up rather quickly)
90-120 would give you more breathing room.

Thats what I would reccomend, might be a little pricey at first. I just sold my c300 128 on ebay last night. Going to try and get a C400 256 GB when they come down in price.

All of the next gen ssd's using 25nm will be comming in the next few weeks. From what I have read the C400 will be released in the next 2-4 weeks. Intel and OCZ are releasing theres in the same time frame.

If you want to read up on the diffrent SSD's coming out to get a better idea on what brand to go with here is a good site.

Hope that helps.
