I see this question come up often. It will work of course but it is just impractical. I mean, I don't want to be a negative nancy but the Sata3 SSD's coming out are already pushing up against the speed cap. Unless you are planning an upgrade real soon to a board supporting sata3, just a get a cheaper sata2 SSD. I think A-Data sells a decent 64gb SSD for a little over a hundred bucks. Tom's Hardware used it in their build back in December. Just my two cents.

Sandforce SF-2200 and SF-2100 chips will be king, but for now C300 256, also depends on if you want the fastest Read or Random or Write or IO or just Overall Performance, then the fastest SSD can vary.

My rig has Sata III, I don't know how to use it, but it has it. But I was asking for my netbook.

Also, how do you set up your OS for an SSD?

Very happy with the Vertex 2 120GB. Prices becoming more reasonable.

Which OS? There's a lovely Win7 for SSDs thread on here.

It has a non-native SATA 6Gb/s controller though. You generally want to use the native SATA controller for best random performance.

As for SSD's that are out currently I like the Corsair Performance 3 over the C300's.

The Gen3 Vertex 3 is as fast as current Gen2 Vertex 2's in RAID 0. It will be available very soon (4-6 weeks maybe sooner). No need to RAID it. I would wait and get one of those.
