Upgrading your xbox 360 hard drive - Page 6

I called Microsoft on this issue, and they called it the "vicious circle". Recover gamer tag, update required, update fail, error code 3151-0000-3080-0502-8015-000b, click ok, and the cycle continues Update required, udate failed.. and so on..... Endless loop. I told Microsoft that my 60 gig drive worked fine, where they said the update was already applied to that drive. They told me to direct connect the XBOX to the modem, and then try it. I did, and it updated fine, but took about 40 minutes to complete. I guess it needed exclusive access to the device, regardless the access rules or DMZ settings on your router. I have a pretty sophisticated router too; Cisco RV082. My other XBOX is on my DMZ and has no issues with updating. As you said 1 in 10K, however you may want to had this to the FAQ file as we now have a solution if anyone encounters this error in the future. She called it the 8015 error... . - Joe

That's what I was getting at before when I mentioned that it was a server time out issue. Some of the other guys in that link you originally posted had to do the same thing as you mentioned to resolve the matter. Glad you got yours worked out.

Yeah, if you look at the posts, I'm there too, because I wanted an answer... and now have one...

Its just weird that it needed a direct connect to the cable modem for the update to work...
