Anyone Experience with Acer? - Aspire TimelineX 4820TG-6847 or better?

I never really considered Acer for a laptop, but this laptop will be for my girlfriend and she just really needs it to surf and browse the web etc.. nothing to extensive, BUT I also want to use it just in case for a little portable gaming.. lol and I want to stay around 700 bucks or less give or take a few.

The reviews of this laptop look good as well as the bench mark. Decent GPU - AMD Radeon HD 6550M

Any other suggestions or comments are welcome!!

i wouldnt get that, my dad bought one not to diffrent was a acer, cant remeber the model, but he moved slightlly and the hard-drive died skimmed it, and acer sent the laptop halfway around the world, decided it needed a new hard-drive and said "were sending it back fixed" and he had a desktop instead? basicly build quailty is crap and customer care is just stupid, get the one i got in my sig, its brillaint never let me down, and the screen is just lovely to watch films on and will play games on steam.

nope. i have a acer 3820T. the 13" model of that one you suggested. its pretty good and the build quality is not bad for what you pay for. i have 3 acer timelinex in this house and they all are runing perfectly fine.

i dont know about the other poster about hard drive issues, but i never encountered that with any portable harddrive

the other poster may have had a bad experience, but not everyone will run into those issues.

regardless. my vote is with the timelinex.

I wouldn't touch an Acer/Toshiba/Gateway/Compaq.

Asus makes affordable gaming laptops.

Watch out for Acers. They market some nice stuff but quality-wise, they're meh My friend has one, in a matter of a year or so things started to fall apart. My girlfriend also has one, hinges gonna go anytime now haha. Go for Asus instead.

Well, I have an Acer Aspire 5740G-6979 since June and I have no complaints against it. I bought it for college and a little gaming on the side and that's exactly what I do with it. I definitely see it lasting all four years and more. But I also take good care of it, most of the time it's on the table with a cooling pad underneath and I don't have a need to carry it around, so it's stays on the table.

I've been comparing the Asus U41JF-A1 to the Acer AS4820TG-6847 to some extent now for my next laptop. I know the battery life of the acer is about 1.5hrs less than the asus but also the price is $80 less, so I was thinking I could buy a 9-cell battery and just carry a backup with me (like 10+ hrs in total). Laptopmag does a good review of both of them, but What I'm concerned about isn't the benchmark scores but how they compare as gaming laptops, performance wise. HD 6550 + i5 2.66ghz vs gt 425m + i3 2.53ghz.
