Pci-E 1x to 16x adapter?

Thread Starter
Does this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815158223&cm_re=pci_to_pcie-_-15-158-223-_-Product even work and what kind of performance would you lose? If two cards are in sli, one with an x16 slot ant the other in this will they both drop to 1x?
My wallet is sad.

that wouldn't work, and even if it did, the performance would be atrocious. don't even try.

The first slot will stay at x16 but the second will be stuck at x1, the adapter only enables compatibility it doesn't bring any more lanes so performance would be atrocious.

didnt someone cut their pcie x16 to a x1 and the video card still worked fine? so technically this would work, but just having the card run at x1. (which would suck but still give u a dedicated card)

What's the purpose for the adapter?

If for folding then have at it, however I would believe that you will experience some performance hindrances for obvious reasons. However you should still benefit from the extra card.

For Example x4/x4 connections work just fine for graphics cards too

Also, would weight be a factor in this? I wouldnt really want to put a dual slot card on that lol

As for the SLI, one card will run x16 and the other x1, just make sure the primary card is the x16 card as it does more work than the secondary card

Not for SLI but the idea will work just fine. That is what I am doing right now.
No problems what so ever using the x1 card, but not for gaming of course. I am running my x1 card in a x1 slot. Actually, I did cut part of the card so it would fit the x1 slot.

It'll work, pci-e is interchangeable, 1x will work in 4x 8x 16x, 16x will work in 8x 4x 1x (providing that they are open back connectors)
