Audio noob needs setup advice

Thread Starter
I want to start out by saying I'm a audio noob. My newest venture started when I bought some cheap ear buds into my desktop and they sounded like crap. I've been wanting to get new speakers as well due to the fact that my desktop is my main source of music in my man cave.

So I buy a used m-audio revolution for $30 due to a recommendation from a friend. I have a HD555 in the mail that I ordered from Amazon. I plan on getting either BX5A or Swan 2.1 speakers in the next couple weeks. Here's a couple questions:

1. Would I really need an heaphone amp?
2. Do I need a DAC?
3. Is there anything else I would need with this setup?
4. Is the amount of money you spend after you reading these forums worth the advice that you recieve? Overclock.net advice money

You would not benefit whatsoever from a headphone amp with the HD555s.

You don't NEED anything. If you WANT quality sound on the other hand, then you'll want a receiver or DAC to power your speakers.

Whether it's worth it to you is another thing...but if you both those Swans, you will have WASTED the money by not having a nice receiver or DAC to make them come alive.

OH YEAH, WAKE UP, YEAH!
