NASA's budget is a drop in the bucket. On top of that we have expanded our knowledge of the universe and space thousand fold since NASA's inception and many, many breakthroughs that we use in every day life have been made by NASA. When will people learn that science is the future and cutting funding will only hinder human advancement?

And what is with mods deleting posts with even a hint of political speech. This is clearly a topic that will generate at least some political conversation, should let it go unless it gets out of hand.

That is a stupid way to think about it. With your logic we shouldn't build movie houses b/c shouldn't that money instead go to the starving? We shouldn't build tanks or jets, shouldn't we feed the people first? Defense spending is the largest part of the budget next to social security, a fraction of that budget would feed ALL starving people in the world.

The advances we get from NASA are worth the relatively small budget they draw. Its foolish to make these kinds of arguments you do. The resources exist to easily feed all starving people, the political will does not.

Ya, seems some mods are trigger happy on any political conversation tonight.

I realize it is against the rules but if people can be civil about it and not get into a flame war it seems like it's harmless.

Not trying to start anything but we were talking about the budget which very much fell in line with this article when talking about the loss of money from the failed launchs. It's hard to put the loss into perspective without making comments on other areas of the national budget to draw comparison.

Like I said I realize it's against the rules but this thread has very close ties to politics so it is to be expected some talk will come up.

Actually, no, most of the deleted material was political; what wasn't replied to otherwise deleted posts, and per protocol such posts have to be deleted if an edit isn't suitable.

I want to respond to this and I really hope the mods do not delete it. I will do it in a completely civil manner.

I simply want to say that the above quoted is only your opinion. Now I'm sure that there are numerous people out there who share your opinion but that does not mean you are right. It also does not mean you are wrong.

I say this b/c honestly I disagree. I'm not saying it's smart to cut off all science and that we shouldn't try to expand our knowledge, I'm that 700 million dollars is STILL a lot of money. What difference does it make if someone else wasted 1 trillion dollars?

Cutting funding might hinder human advancement (in your opinion) but it would also feed many more. It could also provide housing for many more.

In the end neither one of us can say what is right or wrong or what the future is. Unless of course one of us has a time machine in their basement and has been

Ah, alright. Like I said I wasn't trying to start anything was just making an observation. Good to know what is considered acceptable here as far as that goes though.
