[Wired] Samsung Calls Galaxy Tab 10.1 ‘Inadequate’

Samsung’s mobile VP Lee Don-Joo has taken a look at the iPad 2 and decided that his own Galaxy Tab 10.1 isn’t up to scratch. “We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate,” he told the Korean Yonhap news agency.

Further, Samsung was planning to sell the 10-inch Tab for more than the seven-incher, but that too has changed. “[W]e will have to think that over,” said Lee.
Be warned: There is hints of bias in the article though. i.e. "Android Honeycomb OS feels like an old-timey desktop OS". Anandtech did a great analysis of the functionality of Honeycomb. The OS is like a desktop OS because 10.1" tablet is closer to a desktop than a mobile phone.

They need to get fanboys like Apple.

I completely agree with samsung. The other articles I read on the subject claimed samsung cited thinness (not a huge concern for most people I think, but both samsung and apple are obsessed with it), and price (a huge concern for most). If they were thinking of releasing the Tab 10.1 at $750 or something, it wouldn't sell. Most die hard "I need an android tablet NOW" people have or will have bought a XOOM. The rest of us will wait for something cheaper or buy an iPad that has a starting price (with less specs) of $499.

BTW, you might want a source

The only place where the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is inadequate is in the current app market, because honeycomb has been out for like 10 days. The Samsung VP was probably taken out of context.

It's already been reported that a lot of the apps available in Android Market work and scale very well.

Phone apps and tablet apps are two totally different things. Even if the phone apps scale, that's something you only want as a last resort.

I dont really see how its "inadequate" to the iPad2, maybe in lower price lol. The galaxy tab 10.1 has better components then the iPad2...the only thing I can think of thats inadequate is the thinness as E_man explained, they are totally obsessed with it, just look at how thin they want the Galaxy S2 to be.

Also...i think Charlie is a secret Apple fanboy ;P

That's interesting, because pretty much everything I've read about Android phone apps running on Android tablets is the exact opposite of what you posted.

Engadget claims Galaxy Tab is still on schedule anyway:

What's interesting about these honeycomb tablets though :

Quote:
We're starting to notice a pattern with these Honeycomb tablets, and our guess is you are too. Most of them (Moto's Xoom and the Toshiba's Tablet) have 10.1-inch displays, Tegra 2 processors, dual-cameras, and run an untarnished version of Google's Honeycomb OS. Obviously, the cookie cutter specs are no coincidence -- Google's calling a lot of the shots here -- but it's making it incredibly hard for these companies to differentiate their wares. We won't really know how Samsung's Tab 10.1 stands up to the rest until we get to take a closer look at it, but there's no doubt that its lightweight design is what really sets it apart, and hey, if Samsung can undercut the rest in price (eh hem, Motorola!), we'd say it stands a real fighting chance in the very soon-to-be-crowded tablet market.

It seems Android tablet makers are only concerned with countering Apple and not each other. Not sure how well that bodes for their bottom line. It's not like Samsung and Motorola are business partners. Google has GOT to be loving this.
