problem with reinstalling 5870 reference cooler

Thread Starter
Ok guys so I decided to buy another 5870 to crossfire so I can game at 2560x1440. The new card works great but now I am having problems with my old card. Prior to buying the second card, I had my 5870 in my watercooling loop and it worked great. However, I did not have a big enough radiator to have 2 5870s and an i7 in my loop, so I decided to reinstall the stock cooler on my card so that I can aircool my crossfire setup. After the reinstall, my card doesn't work anymore. When booting using the old card (and only the old card) I can see the first asus splash screen. After that, my monitor goes black and the fan on the gpu ramps up to 100%. This happens every time and I have no idea what to do. It has to be a gpu problem because my rigs works perfectly when I swap out the old card for the new one. Any ideas on what could have happened to my old card that would cause it to go haywire like this?
Also, I'm thinking I am going to rma the card if I can't find the solution soon. Does anyone have experience with xfx rma? How picky are they? Because I have replaced the stock cooler as best I can but it might be evidence upon really close inspection that it was removed at one point.

As long as you are in the US of A, you will be fine having replaced the stock cooler.
