Why the iPhone will fail... - Page 3

When you think about it, its pretty good what they have gotten so far with what essentially is one phone model. Its not like there are more than 3-4 phones running iOS that come out parallel with each other.

Its almost common sense that android will take over market share just because of the sheer amount of handsets that are available to the market.

Apple earned $9.8billion in December alone.

So yeah, carry on being naive and think that it will fail. On the contrary, it is only getting bigger.
but profit was only 14 billion for 2010, who cares about revenue its all about profit.

^ it's easier to sell an Android powered phone, when you have 200 phones that run on it, compared to what 4-5 different iphone models?

I'd like to see an even playing field if they are to be compared.

Steve Ballmer, he sure is good at his job.

I heard Microsoft were losing to Apple in CEO Insanity.. so they hired Balmer.

Samsung earned 37.6 billion in the 4th quarter of 2010. Apple's 9 billion doesn't look so much now does it?

-rep if I could, this is false information.

Apple pulled in $4.31B profit in Q4, while Samsung pulled in $3.1B.

Comparing Samsung to Apple is a terrible comparison as well. For one, Samsung Electronics (the part of Samsung Group you reference) has 150k employees, while Apple has 40k employees.

You go on about volume, I think Apple's business model goes right over your head, just like it went over Balmer's head in the earler quote.

Apple doesn't commoditize their products, ever. They sell premium products for huge profit margins (as far as tech goes), and this is enabled by an incredibly strong brand and an extremely strong execution, from hype to build quality. By build quality I don't mean components, I mean cramming things into tiny packages and making shiny exteriors, the things that bring the bux in.

I personally don't own any Apple products, but there's a reason my spare cash is in Apple related securities.

Smartphones were the logical step in the cell phone industry. What apple did right was jump on the idea as soon as the ability to put decent hardware into a phone and still have halfway decent battery life occurred. The claim you just made is like saying mp3 players wouldn't exist if apple didn't popularize them with the ipod. They might have gotten popular slightly later but it was a clear and logical step forward for technology.

Android came about because a few people at Google got iPhones, thought they sucked, and thought they could do better.

Anyway, the thing most of you are completely missing is:

There is no one phone that's right for everyone!
