Is 6000RPM normal?

Thread Starter
So, I noticed my Phenom II 955 stock cooler's rpm goes to 6k rpm, idles at 4000 or something. Is this normal? My cpu's temprature never gone beyond 56-57.
If not, how can i control it?

6000rpm ? thats wrong .. you know how fast 6000rpm is ? it would need more than 12v to run at those speeds .

unless im totally wrong .

what hsf are you using?

2 fans with the yellow sensor wires on one header will give incorrect speed results
post #4 of 26
Thats fairly normal for a amd stock heatsink fan. Intel's fans do close to that.

Did BIOS list it as spinning at "6000rpm?" Perhaps it's a bugged reading? Have you tried something like SpeedFan or Everest to monitor? I dunno, it would probably sound like a blender @ 6000rpm lol.

theres no way that fan is at 6000rpm , you will hear from the other side of the house .

3000rpm is enough to do some damage to ur fingers , 6000rpm would be like a circular saw . I think only vapour chamber style coolers like in the 6950/70 reach those speeds .. But they require a ton of power and are designed to reach in excess of 5500rpm.

Your cpu might take off and fly away with the heatsink , be careful =p

6000rpm? I'd imagine like 51 decibals (spell check) at those speeds.

If you can hear a very, very loud fan, that's normal.

The 70mm fan on the PH II X4/X6 BE's are rated for 0.7A, and can do right about 7000RPM easily.

Intel's fans can't even touch 3,500.

This is the BE stock cooler at full speed.

This is what MY rig sounds like with Delta EFC0912BF Push-Pull on a CM Hyper TX3.
Auto PWM fan ramping feature on the OEM HP Asus board.

Note: The video was shot pre P-P era. So that's how loud it was with two EFC's. Now there's a third.

well whats this then ...

http://www.silentpcreview.com/amd-phenom-coolers

Says 4000rpm max for stock phenom 2 coolers .

AMD Phenom II AM3 stock cooler:

*92 x 91 x 62 mm
*360 g
*3280 rpm
*65 mm fan blade wing span

AMD Phenom II AM2+ stock cooler:

*108 x 92 x 62 mm
*440 g
*4000 rpm
*64 mm fan blade wing span

If you think your fan is spinning at 7,000rpm u have no idea what ur on about .. 7,000rpm is extremely fast , faster than what you think .. At those speeds , the fan could hover off the ground =) not possible .
