How to fix screen tearing?

Thread Starter
(Reference: When I refer to screen tearing, I mean it seems as though there's an invisible tear line across the screen when there's excessive movement on the screen, such as in an FPS like Crysis. Just making sure there's no communication error, ex if I'm not using the term correctly).

My problem: I am running my computer at 60FPS and using a 6970 graphics card. When I play Crysis 2, screen tearing is pretty bad. It always stays consistent along three different spots, and only tears at one of the three spots during gameplay (top third, middle, or bottom third).

Vsync doesn't fix the issue, oddly enough. I am running my monitor at 60fps refresh rate.

Any suggestions to fix this issue? I absolutely hate screen tearing. I'd rather run the game at mid-settings rather than have it running max with screen tear.

Sometimes the in-game Vsync setting does nothing. Try to force Vsync through the driver. In Nvidia CPL you can do it in the game's 3D profile, sure ATI can do similar.

Not sure >_<; I don't notice any problems in Starcraft 2, but that could be because the movement doesn't really encourage screen tearing. I just played Blur for the first time ever on my computer (just to try it), and I noticed a bit of the same kind of tearing, but VSync wasn't on I don't think.

Hmmmm... I'll try forcing Vsync on and in CCC seeing what happens smile.gif (thanks to the above post suggesting that).

I am doubtful that the issue will go away after the demo, but I'm usually doubtful of everything. Here's to hoping smile.gif Crysis 1 still is unplayable on my 6970 (well, unplayable at 1920x1080 and some other resolutions). Kinda not great for Crytek's rep.

connection with monitor ok? though i dunno why it would only be occurring during high load situations. vsync, like the others said, might be the problem. Force on, or even off.

In the CCC the Vsync force option should be in the last tab of 3D settings, where all the settings are shown in summary.

It's a lot better with forced vsync on now. I still see a tear or two when there's harsh movement, but only sometimes. So it's at an acceptable and almost great level (7.5 out of 10 is my rating on the screen tear issue... before the forced it was 2 out of 10).

I'm happy (for now). tongue.gif

Thanks for the help.
