I THOUGHT someone stole my 570... (Update) - Page 10

This thread is depressing.

I've had issues with UPS delivery drivers literally tossing my packages up the stairs in front of my doorway. Like it's too much effort to walk up the 7 or so steps and place the packages (worth several hundred dollars) down gently. Luckily though I live in a pretty good area and haven't had to worry about neighbors stealing.

I'd probably be going ballistic in the OP's position.

I talked to a couple of my neighbors and they all said they hadn't even seen a package out front yesterday... So I don't know what to think, maybe it will come Monday...? Obviously unless someone really did steal it :

last time fedex left a package at my door they left a slip in the mailbox. GL

You have to keep in mind the person delivering it is handling someone else's property, and even if they damage it it's not their responsibility to pay for it.

And some of them don't really care enough to keep their jobs.

I'm sure a small % of them also steal packages. It's because UPS is a big company, they probably get thousands of complaints about missing packages a day (that's going to happen when you deliver millions of them). If a guy steals a few packages every year he's not going to stand out as suspicious.

It's cheaper for the company to replace losses from theft (whether by the delivery guy or someone stealing it from your doorstep) then to hire extra people and have more trucks to make an attempt to hand off the package to the recipient. And FYI, all UPS/FedEx packages are insured for $100 by default.

The failed delivery thing pisses me off too.

I had a delivery from UPS a while back when I ordered a bunch of new parts for a friend's rig. My order came in two packages (one was the case, other was a box of components). I had the day off and waited around for the guy, noting that the online tracker said the item was out for delivery. I was in the living room all morning until I checked the tracker around 1pm and found a "failed delivery" message. No knocks or rings or anything, so I didn't know what to think.

Next day I also had off and waited, but around noon he showed up ... with ONE of my packages. I asked him if he was sure that I only had a single package, given that both were supposed to be out for delivery. He assured me he only had one and that maybe my other was on a different truck (***?). I waited around for the rest of the day and nothing showed up. Around 3 I checked the tracker and it said "failed delivery" with a timestamp around 12:30 ... ***? I decided to call UPS, given that it was a Friday and I wanted to build the system over the weekend. After a number of transfers and holds, my complaining finally resulted in a quick search by the CS agent.

At first they couldn't find my package, then they told me it was never sent out and would be delivered on Monday (contrary to what tracking said). After more *****ing, it turned out that ... the second package was on the truck the entire time and the driver simply didn't see it. I complained and asked for a supervisor to inquire about why a driver would, 30 minutes after delivering my first package, decide to note a failed delivery (due to his own error) instead of returning to deliver my package. I was given the run around and they made a bunch of excuses, but eventually they told me that the driver could come by later as my house was near his route back to the depot.

Although I was annoyed about the whole situation, the UPS guy looked thoroughly pissed about the extra trip. Plus, he wasn't too pleased when I pointed out that he should be more careful when dismissing customer claims about multiple packages

UPS sucks.

Sorry to hear that. I had a Fed Ex guy deliver me something, and not knocking. I ordered RAM and he just left it outside on my porch during rain. I was lucky enough to be sitting in the living room waiting for the package when I heard something hit my door. By the time I opened the door, the guy was gone. But, my RAM got to me safely. The guy didn't even bother to knock during rain,

If the package doesnt show up, call Fed Ex and demand refund if it really got stolen.

Haha my driver and I are on first name basis.. He knows the doors unlocked and will just put it inside the house for me.

Motion detecting cameras turn on too and I get a text message... My philosophy is if a criminal want's in he is going to get in, unlocked doors mean less damage to my house and My German Sheppard that only responds to commands in German will be waiting for a crook too..

Good thing she knows the UPS/FEDEX guys...

Anyhow my suggestion is get to know your drivers and come up with a similar arrangement.

I love USPS they are always on time 12:30pm everyday and they always put my package either in my mail box or on my doorstep inside my fence so no one can take it. I HATE UPS there extreme slow, delay a package if there is even a half inch of snow on the ground and they literally throw my packages on my drive way. My dad almost ran over a 5850 cause he didnt see the box that the ups driver chucked on my drive way arghhh i hate them soo much. For fedex i got one package from them once and that was it so cant say much about them!

I've had pretty good luck with UPS, I live in a house now and the delivery driver is always the same and always comes between 5 and 530. It sucks since it always says out for delivery since like 5 AM and I get it 12 hours later but I can deal with that. At the house/apartment I used to live I had a package once where I had my front door open with just the screen door closed and he still only left a sticker saying he "couldn't" deliver it. No knock or anything. I drove to the local warehouse and picked it up there because I wasn't waiting all weekend to get my GFX card (a 4870). So I think it ultimately comes down to how much effort the driver wants to put into it.
