Which memory will be faster?

Thread Starter
Hi,

Which of these two will be faster for gaming:

DDR2 running at 800MHz at clocking 5-5-5-15
or
DDR2 running at 975MHz at clocking 5-7-7-22
?

Thanks

And if I have 2GB DDR2 that works at 5-5-5-15 or 4GB DDR that works at 5-5-5-18 then which is preferable for gaming?

Yes, actually this is an interesting question. What is the difference in speed between a 5-5-5-15 and a 5-5-5-18 timing? Is it noticeable? Is it 1% slower? 5%? 10%? 20%? ...?

tRAS 15 VS 18 is almost no difference. This timing affects performance very little

Games cares about quantity. So, between 2GB 5-5-5-15 and 4GB 7-7-7-18, choose 4GB.

Penryn procs don't really rely much on the timings; in fact, memory speeds hardly make a difference at all with those procs. Unless you're going to be competitively calculating Super Pi to the nearest ms, there's no point.
