Extended ATX Mobo in ATX Case

post #1 of 3

So im upgrading my system soon and im looking at the new 1155 Asus ROG board. I have a Lian Li PC-7FN case that is made for ATX boards. If im not mistaken the mounting holes for atx and e-atx are the same, the only difference is the boards size itself. Now for the ROG board it seems that the only size difference is that it is 1in wider than a normal atx. So in theory couldn't i just put the e-atx board in my case even though the case isnt really suited for that motherboard. Cause i do have a little more than an inch of room of clearance on the edge of the motherboard tray. I may have problems with the wire management holes but thats no big deal. What do you guys think? Is it doable?

@mr. biggums,
Ya thats what I was thinking as well. I actually didnt notice the extra room at the bottom, lol. I have my sound card on my bottom pci-e slot so i dont see that extra little bit. But anyways i think that it should be fine. There seems to be enough room and the only problem that i may run into is that the holes for wires may be partially covered up but oh well. Thanks for the input man.
