The above poster means CUDA, which, if supported by the applications you use, will greatly reduce your processing times. Nvidia will be a solid option, considering that.

With that budget, either a GTX 560 or an HD 6950. I'm partial to Nvidia's offerings myself; I own the MSI Twin Frozr II GTX 560, and it's a phenomenal combination of price, performance, thermal characteristics, and overclockability. Plus it looks cool, and the cooler doesn't block ports

i'd pick up a 560

After seeing this graph, I would too get a MSI twin frozr, as it will do good performance for games PLUS graphics

I suggest the Twin Frozr II for any card you get, its a freakin' whisper, the loudest part of my PC is the hard drive lol, I'm not even that into quiet computing.

Go ahead and grab the 6870, it's a great card and is in you're budget. You can also buy a 6950, which is also in your budget and just a bit more than the 6870.

A buddy of mine got a 6870, loves it. I was contemplating on a 460 or 6850(then O'c to 6870) for my needs in gaming... mostly using my pc for video editing...but would love to play some games(so i'm relying on the IGP right now), but money is super tight right now...

Secondly, the housing is important. I need something that won't block all my SATA ports, and I've seen housing on a few modelsa(460-6970) that isn't so "boxy" and it looks like i'll have access to at least 2 more ports, outside of what is being used...

Get the Radeon HD 6950 2GB. It'll unlock (always does) to have the additional shaders of the 6970 and you could probably OC it to the same speed, thus giving you the same performance.

Only $2 over budget.

My analysis:

Pic 1 shows how the width of a typical dual slot card (width of the red rectangle) will interfere with all five SATA ports on your mainboard, Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H.

So,
a. you should avoid longer cards like HD6950/6970 (275mm)

b. MSI GTX560 Ti Twin Frozr II (red rectangle) is short enough with 238mm and I estimate its 'green zone' (green circle in pic 1 and pic 2) near the end will allow you to make good use of (at least 2) SATA ports.

c. MSI HD6870 Twin Frozr II 's 245mm length might be short enough as well but it is not as fast as the above GTX560. (But this card allows you to have Hybrid Crossfire with your mainboard's built-in graphic chipset 880G)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127545

My recommendation: MSI GTX560 Ti Twin Frozr II

I hope this helps you to make a good choice.
