Depends on what you are doing.

Thermal paste is better for conducting but if it's RAM heatsinks, it won't hold up reliably.

Tape is good for small RAM or mosfet heatsinks - and if you don't mind a permanent bond, thermal adhesive.

Thermal Paste is better. Tape is for mass production and easy application, but bad performance.

In terms of paste, you'll want to look at AS5, Shin Etsu, OCZ Freeze, or any of the pastes recommended. Just search "best paste" and you'll come across some lively debates and recommendations

Take AS5 off that list and I agree.
When Shin-Etsu is cheaper and WAY better and OCZ Freeze is better and not overpriced AS5 has no place on a thermal paste list. $10 a tube for meh performance doesnt cut it when $5 a tube and Great performance is available.
Anymore its just an upper mid range paste. It does the job, but its not worth buying.

But paste shouldnt be used on everything. Tape is good for small mosfets and heatskinks. Paste is good for CPU and GPU Dies.
