i7 950 running very hot with stock coolers - Page 2

I never realized the Intel stock cooler was that bad, The one that came with my 980x was very good, top core temp was 66c when my room was 30c that's while folding..
The coolers mentioned by other people should see a nice drop in temps, As would a cheap h50. I'm not sure how expensive they are in your local area though.

You're getting way too high temps. 62c Is max safe temp for your chip.

That makes perfect sense, I'm just very new to all this. Thanks .

And thanks to everyone else for their answers, I will probably end up buying the recommended NH-D14 or h50 aftermarket cooler, because I would really want to be able to OC my CPU.

Is your case well ventilate?
DId u apply thermal paste before u put the cooler on?
Its might be your motherboard too.
80c is way too hight for a stock clock even for a stock cooler, u should be at 70c max
As ROCK!

I actually bought this computer pre-built, so I assume the thermal paste was put on correctly (wouldn't the idle temp be much higher than 40C if it wasn't?). As for the case it's a CoolerMaster HAF 912+ and I believe the ventilation should be sufficient.

you really should go for an aftermarket cooler, maybe not an overly expensive one but you will see a difference. other than that everything looks fine

very much so you should be aiming for 55 deg as a safe temp on a 955 and at only 3.8 ghz that is extremely bad

in vista , control panel , energie savings thing , there go to advanced there you can set how much power you give to the core , ofcorse if the max setting is 100 it will go hot.
