x8/x8 is just as good as 16x/16x, isn't it?

8x/8x isn't as fast as 16x/16x, but the performance loss is very small. You could run at 16x/4x and still not have THAT much of a hit, but it might be noticeable.

Assuming the games support Xfire I say just look for an 8/8, 16/16 won't be worth it IMO, unless the price difference is very small.

Someone did a test on here at while back. Using a 16x / 4x config there was a very minimal performance loss, not even worth mentioning.

1st card on pci-e (2.0) x16

2nd card on pci-e (1.0) x4

thats one huge gap, right?

A warning. I crossfired two 6870's at 16x4x and got unbearable microstutter

The benchmark performance was excellent, but for playing games, it was useless.

I can't guarantee that you will get microstutter, but it's something to keep in mind

check out this article for info on pci-e scaling

basically, a 4x slot will get 90% performance out of the card
