It's not. It's a 6.2k RPM fan that isn't very loud at all relatively speaking.

the new 10.6.7 patch fixes the freezing issue. I was able to replicate the issue prior by using photobooth and the yes loop. Now, no issues. Fans spin up to max and it's loaded at 87C.

edit: whoops totally posted int he wrong thread.

Well I am unsure what you are comparing it to but I can assure you that it is very loud. Even if the engine was quite as a whisper, the turbulence caused by the air flowing through the heatfins/exhaust vents would most definitely not be quiet.

So when you say relatively speaking, what do you mean?

my vaio TX with teeny fan is maybe not louder but the pitch is ridiculous. I can hear it while I sleep (it is my torrent box/logmein WOL proxy) from across the room.

My macbook doesnt have the pitch, but tell me what laptop with its fans at full speed is quiet.

Uhm my Dell M6500 ran quieter with it's dual 4.8k~ rpm fans compared to my friend's MBP 17" that seems to want to take off@ max fan. Not to mention was around 20c cooler then my friend's MBP while being nearly 30% faster in CPU, and I dont even want to know how much faster in GPU performance.

Actually I can name quite a few high performance machines that run quieter then the MBP and stay a hell load cooler.

of course a larger fan spinning at a lower RPM will make less noise.

Unfortunately the fans that Apple uses are pretty thin due to design constraints and need to spin faster to achieve the same cooling effect.

oh well. I dont mind it.

It would be interesting to find a way to mod the cooling system. Perhaps several small fans, fan controller, and ducting. It's a tight fit though.

Nice resurrection..I wouldn't, because the laptop will come alive, turn into a transformer and kill you for trying to do so.

This was a joke by the way. Looks sleek, most certainly faster. Although it has the same problem as any other macbook:Overpriced.
not overpriced when youve got the money for it

I sold my macbook pro mid 2010 to get one of these...but instead I got a new rig lol

Lies.

My MBP is an old i5 model and it isn't much slower than the new ones. Hardly at all really in real-world applications.
